Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian stated that this has been China’s position since the establishment of diplomatic relations 53 years ago.
Lin also underscored that the development of bilateral ties has been based on the principles of mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit, and seeking common ground despite differences.
The spokesperson affirmed that China is willing to work with the new German government to consolidate and strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination between the two countries.
According to Lin Jian, Beijing assesses the positive influence of Germany and the European Union (EU) in international affairs and supports the bloc’s integration and strategic autonomy.
“We are committed to working with Germany and Europe to make further contributions to world peace and prosperity,” he added.
Official results of Sunday’s election in Germany showed that the conservative Christian Democratic Union and the Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) alliance of leader Friedrich Merz won with 28.5 percent of the vote.
The far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) was second with 20.8 percent, the party’s best result ever.
The Social Democratic Party (SPD), led by incumbent Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz, fell 10 percentage points to reach 16.4 percent.
