In his confession to the Federal Police (PF), the high-ranking officer revealed details about a coup plot to prevent the inauguration of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva after the 2022 elections.
According to his testimony, Bolsonaro met with the commanders of the three armed forces to discuss the possibility of a coup d’état that would overturn the election results.
This violent aspiration included the arrest of political opponents and Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Supreme Federal Court (STF).
However, the refusal of General Marco Antonio Freire Gomes, then commander of the Army, to participate in the conspiracy was decisive for the plan to fail.
Moreover, the formal indictment filed by the PF against Bolsonaro and 33 others involved in the coup attempt is based in part on Cid’s testimony.
The charges include planning a coup d’état to overturn the election results and, in extreme cases, contemplated the assassination of Lula.
