Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian stated in a press briefing that Washington’s measures seek to block and suppress that sector.
“The United States is politicizing, securitizing, and using trade and technology issues as a tool,” Lin Jian said.
The spokespeople stated that Washington has tightened control over chip exports to China, which hinders the development of the global semiconductor industry and affects negatively the United States as well.
Beijing’s stance reflects its opposition to unilateral practices that distort international trade and technology cooperation.
The comments come amid trade tensions between the two countries.
Recent reports stated that the administration of US President Donald Trump is considering tightening restrictions on semiconductors and putting pressure on its allies to further restrict the development of the industry in China.
The Chinese government denounced the politicization of technology, particularly in the context of national security, and rejected any attempt to impose ideologies on technology cooperation.
Despite progress, China faces external dependence on semiconductors, a critical input for developing artificial intelligence (AI), a field in which the country aims to become a world leader.
