China concerned about new US military aid fund for Taiwan

Beijing, Feb 26 (Prensa Latina) China expressed grave concern following the US decision to release 5.3 billion dollars in foreign aid funds, including 870 million for military assistance to Taiwan.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said that this measure seriously violates the one-China principle and the three joint communiques between the two countries. He stressed that such actions undermine Chinese sovereignty and security interests, while sending a wrong signal to the separatist forces that promote Taiwan independence. “China has always firmly opposed US military aid to the Taiwan region,” he said.

Lin Jian urged Washington to immediately stop these deliveries and cease any action that affects peace and stability in the Strait. According to the spokesman, China will continue to monitor the evolution of the situation and defend the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of the country.

Last week, the Foreign Ministry expressed its strong dissatisfaction with the State Department’s modification to the fact sheet on relations between Washington and Taiwan. The US administration eliminated the phrase “the United States does not support Taiwan’s independence,” which Beijing interpreted as a serious violation of the one-China principle.

This issue is one of the red lines that must not be crossed in relations with Beijing and the government has repeatedly denounced the use of Taipei by the United States and other countries as a way of containing China.

On previous occasions, Beijing responded to measures like these with sanctions aimed at companies in the US military sector.

This Wednesday, the Working Conference on Taiwan Affairs for 2025 ended in Beijing, which concluded with a call to reject the island’s independence provocations, confront external interference in this matter and promote exchanges on both sides of the strait.
