Criminal Court calls witnesses to crimes in DRC to file complaint

Kinshasa, Feb 26 (Prensa Latina) The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan, urged those who have evidence of crimes committed in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to denounce them, the Congolese Presidency said today.

Khan addressed the issue after he met with the President of the DRC, Felix Tshisekedi, who received him the day before at the African Union City to discuss the humanitarian and security crisis in the east of the country.

The prosecutor called on witnesses of violence by armed groups and those who have evidence of “crimes of genocide, war crimes or crimes against humanity, to send it to the ICC website”.

In statements to the Congolese Presidency, Khan maintained that the people of the DRC have the right to protection and justice, and assured that the ICC is following the situation prevailing in the east of the country.

He announced that an international conference on peace, security, and justice will be held in Kinshasa next April to examine the causes of the long-standing instability in the east of the nation.

According to Professor Taylor Lubanga, who is in charge of monitoring cooperation between the DRC and the ICC, the participants in these meetings will examine, particularly the creation of a special criminal court for the Congolese conflict.
