Mainland China rejects separatism and urges cooperation with Taiwan

Beijing, Feb 26 (Prensa Latina) The 2025 Taiwan Affairs Work Conference concluded with a call to reject the island's independence provocations and promote exchanges on both sides of the Strait.

During his speech, the president of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (the highest advisory body), Wang Huning, urged to unite Taiwanese compatriots and support the forces that defend reunification. He also stressed the importance of promoting cooperation between both sides of the Strait, expanding personal ties and supporting Taiwanese entrepreneurs and companies on the mainland.

Wang Huning pointed out that better conditions must be created for Taiwanese youth to develop their dreams on the mainland and share the opportunities and achievements of Chinese modernization. He also stressed the need to firmly oppose interference from external forces and consolidate international support for the one-China principle, and stressed the importance of implementing the spirit of the 20th Congress of the Communist Party, as well as the plenary sessions of the Central Committee. He also stated that it is essential to adhere to the one-China principle and the 1992 Consensus.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi chaired this event, which was also attended by other representatives of government agencies, political parties, armed forces and regional authorities.

The Taiwan issue is one of the red lines that must not be crossed in relations with Beijing and the government has repeatedly denounced the use of Taipei by the United States and other countries as a way of containing China or maintaining a Cold War mentality.

Last week the Foreign Ministry expressed its strong dissatisfaction with the modification made by the State Department to the information sheet on relations between Washington and Taiwan.

The US administration removed the phrase “The United States does not support Taiwan independence,” which Beijing interpreted as a serious violation of the one-China principle and joint communiques.

In addition, the Chinese government rejected the decision of the Japanese Ministry of Justice to allow Taiwanese residents in that country to register their place of origin as “Taiwan” instead of “China.”
