In a message sent to the 4th Latin American Conference on “Artificial Intelligence and Sexual Abuse: A New Challenge for Prevention,” taking place in Lima, the capital of Peru, from February 25 to 27, the Holy Father asked to sustain all efforts to eradicate that scourge from society.
The Interdisciplinary Research and Training Center for Child Protection (CEPROME) and the Pontificial Commission for the Protection of Minors promoted the event, held at the Colegio San Agustin in San Isidro, Lima.
More than 500 experts, academicians, social and political leaders, and representatives of the Catholic Church in Latin America are participating in three days of discussions on the opportunities and challenges of new technologies in the fight against child abuse.
In the document addressed to the participants and released by the Holy See’s Press Office, the Bishop of Rome warned, “The use of the internet creates a sense of impunity, as if a great distance separates us from what is happening, while we observe it from a distant window.”
