A report by Granma newspaper reported this piece of news, which could be seen in the western region, Pinar del Rio, on Tuesday by the 3,300 delegates from 121 countries, during a tour of the Vueltabajo plantations.
The publication highlights that with total guarantee of inputs and a safe market abroad, Cuba started sowing tobacco corresponding to the 2024-2025 campaign.
The bulk of the areas are again concentrated in Pinar del Río, where 12,500 hectares have already been contracted.
Recognized as the land of the best tobacco in the world, the province is not only responsible for more than 60% of the production, but also for most of the raw material destined for export.
The representative of the Tabacuba Business Group in the territory, Osvaldo Santana, said that more than seven thousand producers are participating in the contest, in which Vueltabajo is aiming at a growth of around four thousand hectares with respect to the previous harvest.
The official recalled that, after the passage of hurricane Ian, 90% of the curative houses (10 thousand installations) were destroyed, which forced a significant reduction in the areas to be planted.
