In line with this purpose, the Departmental Directorate of the Northeast of the Ministry of Environment received 175 kilograms of mahogany seeds (Swietenia Mahogany), delivered by the Directorate of Forestry and Renewable Energies.
These seeds, collected in January, were transferred to the Ouanaminthe Forest and Fruit Germplasm Center, where they will undergo a rigorous preparation process before being used in the reforestation programs of the aforementioned ministry.
According to the Haiti Libre digital newspaper, seed treatment is an essential step to ensure maximum germination potential and provide forestry workers with seeds adapted to local climatic conditions.
Native seeds will be given top priority as they respond better to climatic stresses and pests.
In June, these mahogany seedlings will be ready and will actively contribute to the national reforestation program of the so-called Pearl of the Antilles.
