Japan to invest in Sri Lanka’s digital and port sectors

Colombo, Feb 27 (Prensa Latina) Japan will invest in Sri Lanka's digital transformation and port development, according to the outcome of a meeting here between Ambassador Akio Isomata and President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

During the meeting, the Japanese diplomat stated that efforts have been made to include Sri Lanka in the security cooperation assistance program recently launched by the Government of Japan, the Communication Division of the presidency confirmed.

Akio Isomata further reaffirmed his country’s commitment to support Sri Lanka’s Digital Transformation Program, and highlighted Tokyo’s intention to invest in port and aviation related projects and digitalization initiatives.

At the meeting, the current and future initiatives of the joint Japan-Switzerland-South Africa program aimed at fostering national reconciliation among communities in the north affected by the 30-year conflict were discussed at length, the official source said.

The current status of Japanese investments in Sri Lanka was also reviewed.

The Japanese ambassador took the opportunity to officially invite the Sri Lankan president to visit Japan and expressed his appreciation for the new government’s policy framework. mh/arm/ro/lrd
