The alert was expressed by the infectologist Jorge Panameño who urged his compatriots to follow the indications of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) to prevent possible serious cases of dengue, among other ailments present in the country.
According to the doctor, in the last few days in hospitals and health centers there has been a 90 percent increase in respiratory diseases and cases of pneumonia.
In the country’s environment, there is fear of an increase in illnesses, especially influenza A, which would cause a possible increase in pneumonia in the coming weeks.
During an interview on Diálogo 21 of the Panamanian local television station said that the problem with the increase in cases of influenza A is that it could trigger an increase in the incidence of pneumonia in the communities.
Pneumonia, he remarked, is a disease that kills, here and anywhere in the world’.
He warned that the groups most at risk are children and the elderly.
For this reason, he considered it important that the authorities immunize the population with the application of the corresponding vaccines.
