According to columnist Jamil Chade, correspondent of the site in New York, the election in Brazil is a fundamental piece of Washington’s plans to stop the advance of China in the continent and build a new international order.
This week, the White House kicked off an offensive against Brazil, using the alleged censorship against digital platforms as an excuse to send alerts and threaten to suspend visas to authorities who commit acts of condemnation, according to Chade.
Government sources confirmed to UOL that the offensive has a single objective: to create the ideal conditions so that, in 2026, the election in Brazil will be marked by a broad performance of digital platforms to favor Jair Bolsonaro’s supporters.
The article says that on Wednesday, a committee of the US House of Representatives approved a bill that calls for the end of visas and deportation for foreign authorities who adopt censorship against US companies or individuals.
During the debate, Republican lawmakers made it clear that the inspiration for the bill had been Brazil’s attitude against the social network X.
A few minutes later, it was the State Department’s turn to issue a warning to Brazil, claiming that criticism was not compatible with democracy.
Chade noted that in this scenario, the cases of attacks on Brazilian democratic institutions and the denunciation of Bolsonaro for attempted coup are still not mentioned.
He pointed out that the omission and the new narrative are part of a deliberate strategy in the United States, where the perpetrators of the January 6, 2021 attacks on the Capitol were pardoned and described as heroes.
With the way clear for the platform to act in Brazil in 2026, and a push for Bolsonaro not to be convicted, Trump’s hope is to ensure that next year, elections in the country will establish a government allied to his interests, the columnist warned.
