In his first foreign tour, the Head of State emphasized upon his arrival in the Kingdom the opportunity to reaffirm the deep relations between Lebanon and Saudi Arabia.

According to the Lebanese Presidency, Aoun talked to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, in order to pave the way for a future visit and sign agreements to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

The president said that this visit is also an opportunity to thank Saudi Arabia for hosting Lebanese expatriates for many years, and to recognize their contributions to the Kingdom’s economic and urban development.

Invited by Bin Salman, the president is accompanied by Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji. Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Fawzi Kabbara joined the delegation in Riyadh.

On Friday during an interview with Asharq al Awsat newspaper, Aoun stated that he chose Saudi Arabia as his first destination due to its “historical ties” with Lebanon and influence as a regional and world power.

He also reaffirmed his confidence in Saudi Arabia’s help in restoring relations for the benefit of both nations and overcoming recent obstacles.
