The new head of state defined three priorities: economic growth, equity and citizen security. He will have the dilemma of maintaining the macroeconomic framework, reversing the low growth of the Uruguayan economy and allocating resources and policies to alleviate inequality. This involves the management of the fiscal situation and monetary policy amid the discussion on public accounts and inflationary expectations.
Orsi’s government is also committed to achieving an improvement in real wages and quality jobs, demands from the PIT-CNT and affiliated unions as a result of the crisis in industry and labor conflicts.
Among the objectives of Orsi’s cabinet, which should distinguish the current administration from the previous one, are: the social policy, where poverty increased, particularly among children; the improvement of public health system and timely access to specialized medical services and medicines. These are part of the program adopted by the FA and endorsed by the new president.
