The FSB release indicates that a Russian citizen, a native of one of the countries of the Central Asian region, intended to detonate improvised explosive devices “in a Jewish religious institution in the Moscow province and in one of the metro stations of the Russian capital.”
The statement indicates that during the arrest the criminal “put up armed resistance to the FSB agents, and as a result, was neutralized by return fire.”
Weapons and materials used to make explosive devices were seized in the perpetrator’s apartment.
A criminal case has been initiated for crimes under Part 1 of Article 30, paragraph “a” of Part 2 of Article 205 (preparation of a terrorist attack) and Part 2 of Article 205.5 (participation in a terrorist organization) of the Russian Criminal Code.
According to the statement, the terrorist purchased the necessary components to prepare the attack and conducted reconnaissance.
After the attack, the man planned to leave for Afghanistan and join an international terrorist organization.
