Thai government rejects survey showing popular discontent

Bangkok, Mar 3 (Prensa Latina) The Thai government today rejected the results of a survey by the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) that indicates a high level of citizen dissatisfaction with its performance.

Government spokesman Jirayu Houngsub said the survey’s open questions were biased against the government.

He also dismissed the NIDA survey, arguing that official surveys show support for state policies.

As examples of these measures, he cited the disconnection of electricity and internet service to fraudulent call centers in Myanmar, and the program to give 10,000 baht (293,000 dollars) to 45 million people. “GDP growth of 3.2 percent in the last quarter of last year is sufficient proof of our economic success,” Houngsub said, anticipating further growth in the first quarter of 2025.

However, the NIDA survey, released on Sunday, paints a different picture.

Respondents 54.58 percent of them expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and the government, while only 45.42 percent showed a positive response.
