According to an information from his office, the president held talks last night with his Iraqi counterpart, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, on the situation in the occupied territories.
Abbas met with several presidents after arriving in Cairo to participate in a special Arab summit to support the reconstruction of Gaza and reject the displacement of its population.
During his meeting with Jamal Rashid, he expressed his gratitude for Baghdad’s support for the Palestinian cause and its rejection of the expulsion of the Gazan population as demanded by US President Donald Trump.
Gaza is an integral and inseparable part of Palestine, Abbas warned in response to Trump’s plan to control that territory.
He reiterated that the priority, in the current phase, is to consolidate the ceasefire, deliver humanitarian aid, achieve the full withdrawal of Israeli forces, and the Palestinian Authority assumes its responsibilities in the Strip.
Abbas also met with European Council President Antonio Costa.
