According to sources, police fired on Monday on refugees protesting poor living conditions, lack of water, and insecurity in Kakuma, a base that is home to thousands of people from neighboring South Sudan, Ethiopia, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The World Food Program (WFP) recently reported that it had only 45 percent of the necessary food rations due to US-imposed aid cuts.
According to Amnesty International, the camp, one of the largest in the world, is home to some 200,000 refugees and asylum seekers, and there is a concern that the situation could get out of control.
