In a joint communiqué released in this capital by the Foreign Ministry, the aforementioned nations assured that, after carefully analyzing the proposals submitted to that organization for the succession to the General Secretariat, they support the Surinamese foreign minister.
Ramdin, with his vast experience in diplomacy, including his past role as Assistant Secretary General of the OAS, is uniquely positioned to address the contemporary challenges facing our countries, bringing a new perspective that reflects the realities and aspirations of the Caribbean region and the Americas as a whole,’ the document reads.
The communiqué added that this decision represents a significant step towards the unity of the region in the current geopolitical context and also a historic opportunity for the organization, as well as for the Caribbean region, which for the first time would lead the grouping.
The vote for the election of the new OAS Secretary General, currently held by Uruguayan Luis Almagro, is scheduled for the 10th.
