UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell stated that sexual violence is used as a tactic of war in Sudan and informed the abuse of 221 children by armed men.
Meanwhile, human rights groups accuse both the Army and paramilitary forces of abuses against children mainly in the Gedaref, Kassala, Gezeira, Khartoum, White Nile, South Kordofan, North Darfur, and West Darfur states.
Displaced Sudanese families are reportedly returning to Omdurman, west of Khartoum, for the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, as the city shows signs of recovery after nearly two years of war.
However, those who returned found their homes unrecognizable, scarred by bullet holes, rubble, and destruction.
Since mid-April 2023, Sudan has been embroiled in an internal war, following a power struggle between Army Chief, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the leader of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo.
