Cuban Minister of Culture regrets death of Edesio Alejandro

Havana, Mar 5 (Prensa Latina) Cuba's Minister of Culture, Alpidio Alonso, on Wednesday mourned the death of performer, composer, arranger and music producer Edesio Alejandro, as he offered condolences in the name of Cuban artists and the people at large in his X account.

Today we learned of a painful news: the outstanding Cuban musician Edesio Alejandro passed away in Spain.

We are very sorry for his loss, very dear to our people and especially admired among the younger members of the guild, whom he always supported.

His work will live on, said Alonso.

The renowned musician, who died in Madrid, was 66 years old and was the victim of prostate cancer, which he sought to treat in Spain.

He wrote the sound track for such films as Kleines Tropicana (1997), Madagascar (1994) and Clandestinos (1987), the latter two by film director Fernando Pérez.

He was nominated to a Latin Grammy in 2010 for “100 Cuban Sones”, a production that a year later earned a second Grammy nomination.

It is a record collection that includes five CDs that took him three years of work, reflecting Edesio Alejandro’s interest in different genres of Cuban music, rumba among them.
