Cuban President recalls Hugo Chavez legacy

Havana, Mar 5 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President, Miguel Díaz-Canel, recalled today the legacy of the leader of the Bolivarian Revolution, Hugo Chávez, 12 years after his death and highlighted the validity of his thought.

In a message published in his account in X, the Head of State assured that this date is a day of remembrance and homage to Cuba’s best friend, as Fidel Castro used to call him.

“One leaves but does not leave, Cuba’s best friend said, and 12 years after his painful departure, we verify it: #ChavezLives in the hearts of his people and of all those who believe that a better world is possible,” the president highlighted.

Chavez was born on July 28, 1954 in Sabaneta, State of Barinas. As president focused his policies on social projects in favor of the Venezuelan people, and during his term in office, basic and strategic industries were nationalized for the country’s development.

He created the Communal Councils and programs prioritizing food, housing, education and health of the people; he rescued the national identity and defended the poorest.

Likewise, he promoted Latin American integration through the creation and impulse of multilateral mechanisms of transformation for complementarity and social justice. In December 1994, Chavez arrived in Havana and was received by the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, which would mark the beginning of a strong bond of cooperation, solidarity and friendship between both peoples.

On March 5, 2013, the Venezuelan president at the time died at the age of 58 after leading a radical process of changes in the South American nation during three lustrums focused on social transformations.
