A few days ago the IMF approved a financing program that limits the power of cryptocurrency, which had been hindering agreement to disburse about 1.5 billion dollars to El Salvador.
Despite the agreement the country continues to purchase bitcoin for its ‘strategic reserve’ which could thwart further disbursement of funds from the IMF.
Bukele insists on buying bitcoin, as recorded by the government website reporting these operations, and according to which the country purchased more bitcoin for its strategic reserve.

In his message Bukele stressed that the Salvadoran policy ‘Does not stop’ now with the agreement with the IMF and said that ‘if it did not stop when the world ostracized us and most of the ‘bitcoiners’ abandoned us, it will not stop now and will not stop in the future’.
El Salvador was the first country to adopt bitcoin as currency for official use, in September 2021, and despite the fact that it has not fully pleased local customers, the government insists on its use on certain flexible conditions.
