‘Violeta went to heaven’ is a film by director Andres Wood released on August 11, 2011.
Filmed in Chile, France and Argentina, it narrates the life of Chilean singer-songwriter Violeta Parra.
The screenplay was written by Andres Wood, Eliseo Altunaga, Guillermo Calderon and Rodrigo Bazaes, with the collaboration of Ángel Parra, son of Violeta Parra and also a musician of the so-called Nueva Canción Chilena.
It was chosen by the National Council for Culture and the Arts as the national representative for the nominations of Best Foreign Film at the 2012 Academy Awards in the United States, Ariel in Mexico and Goya in Spain.
On January 10, 2012 it was announced as one of the four nominees in the category of Best Ibero-American Film at the Goya Awards, also winner of the International Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival 2012.
