During a press briefing on the sidelines of China’s Two Sessions, the foreign minister stressed the need for Arab unity and international support to achieve stability in the Middle East.
Wang Yi affirmed that Gaza is an integral part of the Palestinian territory and warned that any attempt to change its status by force “will not bring peace but new turbulence.”
The diplomat expressed China’s support for the coastal enclave’s peace plan pushed by Egypt and other Arab countries.
He stressed that the major powers should prioritize a permanent ceasefire, increase humanitarian aid and respect the principle “let the Palestinians rule Palestine.”
Wang Yi also called on Palestinian factions to implement the Beijing Accord to strengthen their unity and urged Middle Eastern countries to overcome divisions and support the Palestinian cause.
“China is a strategic partner of the Arab countries and a sincere friend,” he noted, while reiterating Beijing’s support for the peoples’ self-determination in the region and their right to choose their development paths.
