Damascus, Mar 7 (Prensa Latina) At least 100 were killed today in armed clashes in the coastal region of western Syria, inhabited by the Alawite Muslim minority.

Official sources quoted by the media here indicated that at least 30 security agents died and another 100 were wounded in the clashes with armed groups, most of whom were soldiers of the former Syrian army.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights indicated on its official X account, that there have been more than 70 dead, dozens wounded and captured in bloody clashes and ambushes on the Syrian coast.

Videos are circulating on social networks of dozens of bodies of civilians dumped on the roads after being killed for sectarian reasons.

According to the Interior Ministry, unruly crowds headed for the coast, where they committed violent actions, despite attempts to stop them.

Earlier, the Defense Ministry of the current Syrian government sent large military reinforcements to the coastal provinces of Latakia and Tartous, to support security forces in confronting armed groups made up of ex-military personnel, who launched a coordinated attack.

Through a statement released by the official SANA news agency, the Interior Ministry’s Security Operations Command urged all civilians to stay away from the areas of military operations and leave the task to the specialized army and security forces, who are operating according to well-thought-out plans.

We have ordered all military and security units to strictly comply with established procedures and laws in order to protect civilians and firmly confront any attempt to attack national security, the command said.

Violent clashes broke out yesterday in the Syrian coastal municipality of Jableh and then spread to other localities in Tartous and Latakia provinces.
