Syrian interim Gov’t repress revolt in coastal region

Damascus, Mar 7 (Prensa Latina) The Defense Ministry of the current Syrian government sent on Friday large military reinforcements to the Latakia and Tartous coastal provinces to restore order after a day of violent clashes.

Units from the country’s different provinces headed to the coast to support security forces in confronting armed groups made up of former military personnel who launched a coordinated attack on security points in the cities of Tartous, Jableh, Qurdah, and Sheik Bader, the Ministry informed, as quoted by Syria TV.

It added that the military forces launched the operations to confront the illegal groups and bring them under the State’s authority.

Local sources indicated that several reinforcement convoys were attacked on the roads leading to Tartous and Latakia.

SANA reports that the Security Operations Command of the Interior Ministry urged all civilians to stay away from the military operation areas and leave the task to the specialized army and security forces operating according to well-thought-out plans.

We have ordered all military and security units to abide by the established procedures and laws to protect civilians and confront any attempt to attack national security, the Command stated.

The release underscored that no party or individual can act outside the framework of the State and the law, and Syria will remain strong and united thanks to its people and institutions’ willingness.
