We are at the initial stage of the restoration of our bilateral relations, and we have a rather long and arduous road ahead of us, but the two presidents have expressed the political will to move in this direction at least, Peskov told reporters on Monday.
The Kremlin representative refused to confirm a CNN television network report that Russia and the United States could hold a new round of negotiations this week in Saudi Arabia. “I cannot confirm it. It is not true,” Peskov replied when asked about it.
Also Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova clarified moments earlier that “no new contacts with the United States are scheduled” in Riyadh this week. “Moreover, we have not received any information from the US side in this regard,” she added.
Last February 18, the official delegations of Russia and the United States met for the first time in a long time in the Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh to seek normalization of bilateral relations.
They also sought to realize the first summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump and to facilitate possible negotiations to resolve the Ukrainian conflict.
The two nations agreed to create a favorable climate for the full resumption of bilateral cooperation in different areas of common interest, as well as to lift the artificial barriers affecting the functioning of their embassies and other diplomatic institutions, and to form a high-level working group with a view to begin to resolve the Ukrainian crisis.

Rusia ve “bastante largo” el camino hacia normalización con EEUU
Moscú, 10 mar (Prensa Latina) El portavoz de la Presidencia rusa, Dmitri Peskov, consideró hoy que el camino hacia la plena normalización de los vínculos entre Moscú y Washington será “bastante largo”.
Estamos en la fase inicial de la restauración de nuestras relaciones bilaterales, y tenemos por delante un camino bastante largo y arduo, pero los dos presidentes han expresado la voluntad política de avanzar en esta dirección al menos, declaró Peskov este lunes a los periodistas.
El representante del Kremlin rehusó confirmar un informe de la cadena de televisión CNN de que Rusia y Estados Unidos podrían sostener una nueva ronda de negociaciones esta semana en Arabia Saudita. “No puedo confirmarlo. No es cierto”, respondió Peskov cuando le preguntaron al respecto.
También la portavoz de la Cancillería rusa, María Zajárova, aclaró momentos antes que “no están programados” nuevos contactos con Estados Unidos en Riad esta semana. “Es más, no hemos recibido ninguna información de la parte estadounidense al respecto”, añadió.
El pasado 18 de febrero, las delegaciones oficiales de Rusia y de Estados Unidos se reunieron por primera vez desde hace mucho tiempo en la capital de Arabia Saudita, Riad, para buscar la normalización de las relaciones bilaterales.
Igualmente pretendieron concretar la primera cumbre entre el presidente ruso, Vladimir Putin, y su homólogo estadounidense, Donald Trump, y facilitar posibles negociaciones para resolver el conflicto ucraniano.
Las dos naciones acordaron crear un clima favorable para la completa reanudación de la cooperación bilateral en distintos ámbitos de interés común, así como levantar las barreras artificiales que afectan el funcionamiento de sus embajadas y otras instituciones diplomáticas, y conformar un grupo de trabajo de alto nivel con vista a comenzar a resolver la crisis ucraniana.
