The village, located approximately 40 kilometers north of Seoul, suffered large-scale damage last Thursday after two KF-16 fighter jets dropped eight MK-82 bombs outside a training range during live-fire exercises.
“We plan to continue damage surveys this week, so the damage count could change,” the municipal government disclosed.
South Korea’s central administration declared the affected region a special disaster zone, which entitles it to financial support for recovery efforts and relief funds for victims. Initially, 58 buildings were reported damaged, but the number has increased with each new survey, and, after a third, rose from 142 to 152.
According to the Pocheon municipal government, the number of people injured in the accident stood at 31; 19 civilians and 12 soldiers; there were no fatalities.
