Trinidad and Tobago calls for more security during Ramadan

Port of Spain, Mar 10 (Prensa Latina) Opposition leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar called for the reinforcement of religious sites during Ramadan celebrations in Trinidad and Tobago due to the outbreaks of violence that the nation is experiencing today.

Persad-Bissessar’s call comes against the backdrop of the current state of emergency throughout the country as citizens are under constant threat of terror.

It is necessary to increase the patrolling of religious places such as churches and mosques, with the aim of improving the security of the faithful, because unlike other times the country is experiencing an unprecedented wave of crime and violence, the opponent argued ,quoted by the site Associates Times.

Ramadan is a period of spirituality and strengthening for those who profess the Islamic religion.

This name comes from the Arabic root “ar-ramad”, which means scorching heat and according to tradition, its origin dates back to 610 A.D. when the angel Gabriel appeared to the prophet Mohammed and revealed to him the holy book of the Koran, during the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.

This month is characterized by long fasting during daylight hours, from approximately 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., at which time the first meal of the day (iftar) is eaten communally, with groups of worshippers gathering to break the fast, just after sunset (maghrib).
