Bolivian military mobilized before red alert for rains

La Paz, Mar 12 (Prensa Latina) The Bolivian Armed Forces remain ready to assist the territorial authorities for the benefit of the population after the red alert (maximum) established until March 25 for possible floods, according to the government.

“In this season, from March 11 to 25, there will be imminent rains, untimely rains, very strong storms that will cause rivers to overflow,” the Minister of Defense, Edmundo Novillo, said the day before.

The preventive measure covers 23 municipalities in Cochabamba, 21 in La Paz, 20 in Chuquisaca, 14 in Potosí and 20 in Santa Cruz.

Novillo called on the population to take precautions and on carriers to drive with caution when traveling by road due to some landslides, as occurred this Tuesday on the La Paz-Cochabamba highway and in the Yungas of La Paz.

He urged departmental and municipal governments to be ready to respond immediately to citizens who may be affected by the rainfall.

He reiterated that his portfolio and the Vice-Ministry of Civil Defense, as well as the Armed Forces are prepared to attend eventual emergencies.
