Uganda’s UG Diplomat website highlights this Thursday that the statement was delivered during the 58th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, where the group denounced Cuba’s inclusion as arbitrary, illegal, and politically motivated.
UG Diplomat adds that the signatory countries declared their solidarity with the Cuban people and government and called on the United States to remove Cuba immediately and unconditionally from that list and lift the economic blockade against the Caribbean nation.
The document states that several UN special rapporteurs and human rights experts previously condemned both the US blockade and the list of alleged terrorist countries, highlighting its detrimental effects on Cuba’s economy and social welfare.
The Group of Friends reiterated that the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), for 32 consecutive years, has passed resolutions, that Washington has ignored, urging the United States to end the blockade.
