The head of the enclave’s Government Press Office, Salama Maarouf, stressed that the humanitarian situation threatens to worsen the suffering of Gaza residents.
He noted that six of the 25 bakeries closed their doors for lack of flour and that there is a severe shortage of drinking water, affecting more than 90% of the territory’s population.
There is a real return to famine indicators throughout the Strip, he warned, alluding to the critical situation the area experienced following the 15-month Israeli offensive, which began in October 2023.
The Strip Municipalities Union informed this week that the Israeli blockade on aid inflows and the cutting of electricity supplies exacerbated the crisis. It added that such actions reflect ongoing punitive policies against Palestinian civilians, constituting a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and worsening the suffering of Gaza residents.
