According to military sources, the actions, carried out the day before, killed two leaders of the Islamist group identified as Farhan Osman Hassan, head of the group’s explosive operations, and Ahmed Gumar, in charge of finances.
On the other hand, the Somali Minister of Defense, Abdulqadir Mohamed Nur, confirmed that more than 150 Al Shabaab fighters were put out of action in air raids carried out on Wednesday and Thursday in those regions.
The day before, Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre promised that his government will eradicate the terrorists, referring to the Islamist group Al Qaeda, after the explosion, earlier this week, of a car loaded with explosives and an armed attack against the Cairo hotel in the city of Beledweyne, Hiraan region.
The action was claimed hours later by the Islamist group Al Shabab (The Youth, in Arabic) loyal to the Al Qaeda network, whose forces occupy areas in the interior of Somalia and carry out frequent bombings and armed attacks against the capital and military bases.
