DPRK charges G7 with generating, worsening world nuclear crisis

Pyongyang, Mar 17 (Prensa Latina) The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) today accused the Group of Seven (G7) of wielding its nuclear potential as a coercive tool to realize its hegemonic plans. The Foreign Ministry statement described as anachronistic the G7's designs to set itself up as an exclusive club of nuclear weapons possessors, as evidenced at the recent foreign ministers' meeting of the member countries (Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States).

He also disqualified the Group’s intention to demand that the DPRK and other nations renounce their nuclear weapons systems because this is a legitimate right for the defense of their sovereignty and as an element of war deterrence.

It is the G7 that seriously threatens world peace and security, and should abandon its anachronistic ambition for nuclear hegemony before talking about denuclearization and dismantling anyone’s nuclear weapons, the statement said.

As for the DPRK, it claimed the right to possess nuclear weapons ‘to defend the sovereignty, territorial integrity and fundamental interests of the state, prevent war on the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia and ensure the strategic stability of the world’.
