Cuban Deputy Prime Minister to speak at key conference in India

New Delhi, Mar 18 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Deputy Prime Minister Eduardo Martínez will speak at the panel discussion "Climate Cataclysm: The Adaptation Agenda is Gasping" at the high-level Raisina Dialogue, India's flagship conference on geopolitics and geo-economics.

Following the session, Martínez and his accompanying delegation will attend a business forum with science and technology companies, with an emphasis on biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, organized by the Indian Economic and Trade Organization (IETO).

The Cuban Deputy Prime Minister had an intense day on Monday, which included his participation in the opening of the Raisina Dialogue and a joint meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and high-level figures attending the conference. Previously, he spoke with Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Science and Technology, about possibilities for expanding bilateral cooperation in the scientific and technological field, primarily in biotechnology.

The Cuban leader and the Director General of the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), Amit Prothi, discussed opportunities to strengthen cooperation between Cuba and the organization.

After the meeting with CDRI, Martínez described the coalition in a press interview as an important partnership in responding to increasingly frequent natural disasters. He noted that Cuba joined the coalition in 2024, which he considered valuable for Cuba’s benefit, which in turn can contribute with its experience in responding to, preventing, and recovering from hurricanes and other meteorological phenomena.

At the meeting, organized by CDRI, Martínez confirmed Cuba’s commitment to providing the coalition with accessible and scalable technology for early warning systems and adaptable risk management, with resources available to transfer knowledge in the recovery and management of coastal ecosystems. He also expressed his willingness to contribute proven and validated community models, such as its Civil Defense system, recognized by the United Nations, which integrates science, government, and communities in evacuation and recovery plans.

Martínez proposed the creation of a training network to replicate the approach, which maintains citizen participation as its central axis, and outlined the contribution of Cuba’s technical capacity to joint projects on topics such as epidemiological surveillance, crop adaptation, critical infrastructure design, and hurricane-resistant hospitals and schools as part of South-South cooperation in applied science.
