Increased funds for markets and schools in El Salvador

San Salvador, Mar 19 (Prensa Latina) The Legislative Assembly of El Salvador approved new funds for agro-markets and schools in the country, according to media reports.

The Legislative Assembly resolved a budget reinforcement for 20 million dollars to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, with the objective of improving the supply of agri-markets and for the implementation of Supply Centers that allow the offer of fresh, good quality products at low prices.

The action is a continuation of the announcement made in June and July 2024 by President Nayib Bukele, who established the markets to help the economy of Salvadorans and which currently reach 55 centers, according to a report by Diario El Salvador.

The initiative proposed to protect the lower income population and to stop abuses by importers, distributors and traders who increase prices unjustifiably.

The Parliament, with a majority of the ruling party and allies, 57 votes, also agreed on another 20 million dollars for the construction and improvement of educational centers at national level, after the non-fulfillment of goals to improve nearly five thousand schools in previous years.
