Indonesia and the EU have been negotiating a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) since July 2016, but without reaching an agreement yet.
Speaking to the press, Hartarto said he had just briefed President Joko Widodo on the latest developments in the negotiations.
While the talks are progressing, he revealed that Indonesia and the EU were yet to agree on import licensing issues.
“The CEPA negotiations between Indonesia and the EU still have two issues that we need to address, export duties and import licenses, I have reported the updates to Mr. President,” Hartarto said.
Widodo’s predecessor aimed to have CEPA signed by 2024 at the latest, however, Indonesia subsequently postponed the deadline to the first half of 2025.
The policy will come into force for large and medium-sized companies by the end of 2025.

Yakarta, 19 mar (Prensa Latina) Indonesia y la Unión Europea (UE) intentan llegar a un consenso sobre las licencias de importación, informó hoy el ministro coordinador de Asuntos Económicos, Airlangga Hartarto.
Indonesia y la UE negocian un acuerdo de asociación económica integral (CEPA) desde julio de 2016, pero sin llegar aún a un acuerdo.
En declaraciones a la prensa, Hartarto dijo que acababa de informar al presidente Joko Widodo sobre las últimas novedades de las negociaciones.
Si bien las conversaciones están progresando, reveló que Indonesia y la UE aún no se ponían de acuerdo sobre cuestiones relacionadas con las licencias de importación.
“Las negociaciones del CEPA entre Indonesia y la UE todavía tienen dos cuestiones que debemos abordar, los derechos de exportación y los permisos de importación, he informado las actualizaciones al señor presidente”, declaró Hartarto.
El predecesor de Widodo tenía como objetivo que el CEPA se firmara a más tardar en 2024, sin embargo, Indonesia pospuso posteriormente el plazo hasta el primer semestre de 2025.
La política entrará en vigor para las grandes y medianas empresas a finales de 2025.
