Honduras calls at ECLAC to increase efforts to fulfill 2030 Agenda

Santiago, Chile, Apr 4 (Prensa Latina) Latin America must increase efforts to achieve the 2030 Agenda's most significant goals, stated Honduras's Undersecretary of Credit and Public Investment, Roberto Carlos Ramirez, who is participating in an Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) meeting.

Ramirez told Prensa Latina that five years after the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were fulfilled, only 23 percent of them have been achieved.

The official referred to the effects caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, global conflicts, foreign debt, low growth, and lack of financing.

He stated that we deemed it essential to structure the programs and projects to achieve the proposed goals.

He recalled that the world is multipolar and each country has its particularities, therefore, the objectives must be adapted to this reality.

A decade ago, 193 United Nations member countries approved an ambitious agenda of 17 SDGs for 2030 to eliminate poverty and hunger, and improve education and healthcare among other purposes, under the principle that no one should be left behind.

The 8th meeting on the subject, which concludes at the ECLAC Chilean headquarters this Friday, addressed health and well-being, gender equality, decent work and economic growth, underwater life, and partnership to achieve the objectives.
