President Xiomara Castro announced Thursday evening that she talked over the phone with her counterparts from Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, and Guatemala, Bernardo Arevalo, who ratified their attendance at the Summit.
“I have just had phone talks with our dear friend, President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, and our friend President of Guatemala, Bernardo Arevalo, to whom I extend my warmest welcome to Honduras,” the president wrote in a post on X.
She extended her fraternal welcome to “the brother heads of State and Government who have confirmed their participation in the 9th Summit of CELAC.”
She mentioned the presidents of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva; Colombia, Gustavo Petro; Bolivia, Luis Arce; Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel; and Uruguay, Yamandu Orsi.
The list also includes the prime ministers of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Gonsalves, Guyana, Mark Phillips, and the president of the Presidential Transitional Council of the Republic of Haiti, Leslie Voltaire.
Honduran Foreign Minister Enrique Reina underscored on the same social platform that “no president in the history of Honduras” had ever achieved such a presence of heads of State, foreign ministers, deputy foreign ministers, and heads of delegation at an international summit.
Deputy Foreign Minister Gerardo Torres emphasized that the summit of the leading mechanism for continental coordination “will be the event of the year in the region and an indelible milestone in the history of Honduras.”
