Nicaragua records inter-annual growth of economic activity

Managua, Apr 8 (Prensa Latina) The Central Bank of Nicaragua (BCN) presented the results of the Monthly Index of Economic Activity (IMAE) for January of this year, and recorded an inter-annual growth of 3.4 percent, it was reported today.

According to the BCN information, in the seasonally adjusted series of the IMAE, there was a 2.2 percent decrease with respect to the previous month and a 3.8 percent growth with respect to January 2024.

In the trend-cycle series of the IMAE, a growth of 0.6 percent was recorded compared to December 2024 and 3.7 percent compared to January 2024.

The financial entity specified that in the original IMAE series, the highest growth rates were registered in hotels and restaurants (9.8 percent); construction (7.4 percent), financial intermediation, and related services (6.1 percent).

Trade (5.7 percent), transportation and communications (5.3 percent), agriculture (4.8 percent), and manufacturing industry (4.4 percent), among others, also stood out.

On the other hand, decreases were recorded in fishing and aquaculture activities (-40.8 percent), and energy and water (6.0), among others.

The report indicated that growth in primary activities was driven by improvements in agriculture, particularly due to increased cultivation and production of coffee and sugar cane. In the livestock sector, the growth was attributed to a rise in poultry slaughtering, as well as higher production of milk and eggs, among other activities.
