Outgoing Chaos emotionally voiced her gratitude towards her alma mater, where she wrapped up a 15-year process of professional and human growth.
“In February 2020 I assumed a great responsibility, and today I leave a strengthened institution,” she said.
She highlighted the challenges faced all along, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the campus became a scene of ‘dedication, leadership and resilience’.
Chaos hailed the key role played by students in earning achievements under her administration, such as the Carlos J. Finlay Award in 2022, granted by Presidential Decree, as well as the National Accreditation Board’s acknowledgment of all syllabus at the School of Stomatology.
She went on to detail advances in infrastructure, such as the recovery of laboratories, student residences, sports halls and the creation of a literary café and a Children’s Playground.
“We worked under complex conditions, but managed to host scientific events with governmental support,” she added.
The former rector also greeted the graduation of 26 PhDs in Science and the strengthening of the teaching staff.
“It was a team that took on defeats, joys and mistakes, always looking forwards to training more humane professionals,” she said.
Lester Marrero Molina, the new rector, took office with the commitment to promote a ‘stage of growth’ and to take advantage of the potential of students and professors.
This university has gone through more than 45 years of achievements and will continue to be a center fostering change, he said.
The ceremony closed with a call for unity and the continuity of the university’s legacy, consolidating its prestige as a training center for professionals committed to health and humanism.
