Half a dozen states have rivers in “severe flood” stage, according to the National Weather Service forecast.
According to reports, some 21 gauging points along rivers in the Midwest and South are in severe flood stage, and the number could nearly double in the coming days.
Most of the major flooding points are in Kentucky, local media report.
More than 30 centimeters of rainfall was recorded from last Wednesday to Sunday in the south-central part of the country, where some localities had rainfall almost comparable to an entire spring in just a few days.
The storms also caused at least 88 tornadoes in the region hit by the hydrometeorological phenomenon, six of them with EF3 intensity on a maximum scale of EF5.
