Death toll in Santo Domingo disco collapse rises to 218

Santo Domingo, Apr 10 (Prensa Latina) The death toll in the collapse of the Jet Set discotheque in the Dominican Republic has risen to 218, as the search for trapped bodies continues, 48 hours after the tragedy occurred, the Emergency Operations Center (COE)reported on Thurdsday.

The disco’s roof at Independencia Avenue, in the National District, fell at 12:44 a.m. last Tuesday morning, during a party hosted by merengue singer Rubby Perez, who died under the rubble.

Last night, the Government informed that it was staring the phase of body recovery, having exhausted all possibilities of finding more survivors.

Authorities went on to say that this does not mean in any way that the case is closed or that less attention is given to the tragedy.

They explained that once the recovery phase is concluded, the investigation will begin to clarify the causes of the roof’s collapse at the iconic entertaining venue.
