Ecuador National Electoral Council (CNE) Seals Computer System

Quito, April 10 (Prensa Latina) Ecuador's National Electoral Council (CNE) reported today that it verified and sealed the Computer System for Counting and Results (SIER) for the second round of the presidential elections, which will take place next Sunday.

n a statement, the electoral body indicated that this procedure showed that the system was at zero, with no prior record of tallies or results, and that security codes had been generated.

Also this Thursday, the CNE began training for 485 international observers from organizations such as the Inter-American Union of Electoral Bodies, the World Association of Electoral Bodies, the Organization of American States (OAS), the Mercosur Parliament (Parlasur), the European Union, among others.

The president of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Diana Atamaint, emphasized the importance of the observers’ presence to ensure the transparency of the electoral process and, in this regard, stated that “their work strengthens the legitimacy of the process and contributes to public confidence.”

Last Sunday, during the electoral simulation, CNE member Elena Nájera asked observers from political organizations and international observers to be on the lookout for possible irregularities and expressed doubts about the independence and impartiality of the electoral process.

More than 13.7 million Ecuadorians are expected to vote this coming Sunday to elect a president between Luisa González, of the Citizens’ Revolution (RC), and the current president, Daniel Noboa, who is seeking reelection.

The polarized environment and accusations of possible manipulation mark this crucial electoral process for the future of Ecuador, where the ruling party defends its permanence and the left, represented by the RC, seeks change for the country after years of multiple crises.
