The re-elected leader must understand that the results are not an endorsement to continue precarious employment, labor exploitation, or the intentions of his neoliberal and privatization policies, Villavicencio stated at a press conference on Monday.
The FUT leader demanded that the Executive branch respect the main rights demanded by the Ecuadorian people, such as freedom of association and collective bargaining.
He noted that there are more than 6.5 million people who are unemployed or in precarious employment, and said this is one of the issues that needs to be resolved.
He also called on the president to solve the problem of insecurity, something he has not resolved despite having all the tools to guarantee this fundamental right.
The union leader also questioned how the Noboa administration will pay the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS) the $24 billion debt after confirming in the presidential debate that there will be no increase in contributions or retirement years.
The FUT also called for a march on May 1st for Workers’ Day in Quito.
According to data from the National Electoral Council (CNE), Noboa won the April 13 elections by more than 10 points over Luisa González of the Citizens’ Revolution, who described the incident as “the most grotesque fraud in the history of Ecuador.”
With 92.64 percent of the valid ballots counted, Noboa has 55.61 percent of the votes, compared to his rival’s 44.39 percent.
