Chile begins wearing masks in emergency centers

Santiago de Chile, Apr 15 (Prensa Latina) As of today, the mandatory use of masks will begin to be implemented in Chile in emergency care, both in public and private centers, due to the increase of respiratory viruses.

The decision is similar to the one taken last year and its objective is to prevent these centers from becoming sites for the spread of diseases typical of the autumn and winter season.

Currently in circulation in the country are Rhinovirus, syncytial virus, Influenza A and SARS-CoV-2, which causes Covid-19, among others.

The authorities also recommended people with respiratory conditions to use the masks in closed places, such as transportation or school.

Last week, the Minister of Health, Ximena Aguilera, reiterated her call to the population to get vaccinated before May, when virus circulation increases.

President Gabriel Boric warned about the anti-vaccine speeches in the country and the world, and recalled that these preparations prevent diseases, reduce mortality and improve life expectancy.

The president indirectly referred to recent declarations of the presidential standard bearer for the ultra-right National Libertarian Party, Johannes Kaiser, who questioned the child immunization program and said that vaccines work with heavy metals to fix themselves to the body.

Boric, who went to the Marta Ugarte Family Health Center to get vaccinated, called to be responsible and declared that neither in the media, nor in political speeches, can there be space to spread false information.
