Increase in deaths reported on new anniversary of war in Sudan

Khartoum, Apr 15 (Prensa Latina) On the second anniversary of the beginning of the war in Sudan, United Nations agencies denounced that some 300 civilians have already died in attacks on refugee camps in El Fasher.

The most affected bases are the Zamzam and Abu Shouk displaced persons camps and their surroundings, as well as in the city of El Fasher, in the state of North Darfur.

As reported the day before by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the fatalities are a consequence of the war that started in April 2023, and especially due to the violence of the latest fighting on April 11 and 12, as part of the army offensive against paramilitaries in areas controlled by the so-called Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The Emergency Service recently denounced an acute lack of food and shortage of drinking water for the population, prevented from fleeing by the RSF.

Meanwhile, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) acknowledged that some four million people have been displaced from Sudan to other neighboring countries since the beginning of the conflict, while more than eight and a half million Sudanese have moved internally to other nations.
