To Lam made these remarks during talks held this Monday with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPC) and President of China Xi Jinping, who concluded a two-day state visit to Vietnam.
To Lam expressed his confidence that this meeting will strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership and advance the building of a Community with a Shared Future between Vietnam and China with great strategic significance, and also marks a milestone in bilateral ties.
Xi Jinping, in turn, emphasized that choosing Vietnam as his first overseas travel destination this year reflects the importance China attaches to this relationship, and reaffirmed his commitment to working with Vietnamese leaders to promote deeper cooperation. He also shared with his host the outcomes of the recent Central Conference on Work Related to Neighboring Countries, at which China reaffirmed its commitment to building the “Five Great Houses” (peace, security, prosperity, beauty, and friendship) together with its neighboring countries.
VNA news agency reported that To Lam and Xi Jinping held an in-depth dialogue in a friendly, sincere, and frank atmosphere regarding the situation of their respective parties and countries, bilateral relations, and various issues of regional and international concern. They also agreed to maintain regular high-level meetings, upgrade the Strategic Dialogue mechanism on Diplomacy, Defense, and Public Security to the ministerial level, and foster more substantive cooperation in various fields.
The two sides agreed to instruct relevant stakeholders to seek practical solutions to resolve disagreements and promote cooperation, in accordance with the new level of relations between Vietnam and China and based on international law. They also reaffirmed their commitment to strictly abide by the consensus between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and China on the conduct of relevant parties in the East Sea, in accordance with the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
