Taliban government denies arms smuggling from Afghanistan

Kabul, Apr 16 (Prensa Latina) The Islamic Emirate (Taliban government) rejected an article in The Washington Post newspaper alleging that weapons of US origin are being smuggled from Afghanistan to Pakistan.

Deputy spokesman for the Islamic Emirate, Hamdullah Fitrat, emphasized that all military equipment abandoned by the United States in Afghanistan is under the control of the interim government, and asserted that the weapons reflected in the article have long existed on the black market.

All ammunition and military equipment in Afghanistan is securely stored in warehouses, and every effort has been made to prevent the smuggling of these weapons, Fitrat stated.

The Washington Post published an investigative report claiming that US-made weapons originally supplied to Afghan security forces during the US military presence have fallen into the hands of Taliban Pakistan (TTP) fighters.

The report claims that 63 weapons seized from militants in Pakistan were originally provided by the US to Afghan forces during its two-decade military mission.

It also alleges that some US-made military equipment, such as assault rifles, machine guns and night vision goggles, are now being used by TTP fighters and other armed groups.
